CLASSES OF REFLECTIVE VESTS/HI VIS VESTS:

Hi Vis or Reflective Vests are classified into different classes according to their usage in different conditions. It can be differentiated based on background color and reflective strips. Being a manufacturer, and wholesaler of safety vests we take great care of the aspects that are important for personal protection as well as federal laws. For the background color, according to industrial rule of thumb, it’s recommended to use Fluorescent lime yellow or orange color, and for strips to use retro-reflective + performance materials.

Class 2 Hi Vis Vests/Reflective Vests:

Class 2 Hi Vis Vests are the most popular form of safety vests. They are also made with fluorescent yellow and orange background color (775 sq. in) and retroreflective material (201 sq. in). But according to the industrial rule of thumb, reflective tape is more to be used on them to make them better visible than class 1 safety vests. They can be used even in the evening time. They are mostly sleeveless and retroreflective tape sewn on shoulders as well, unlike class 1 safety vests. They are worn when there is more probability of accidents on roadsides. They are worn by:
1) Workers working on road construction sites where traffic speed is 50 Mph.
2) Toll operators
3) Surveyors
4) School Crossing Guards
5) Railway line workers

Class 3 Hi Vis Vests/Reflective Vests:

The class 3 Hi Vis Safety vests are the highest class of safety vests. The Industry rule of thumb is to wear where traffic is moving above 50 mph. They are made with Flourescent Background Material (1240 sq in) and retroreflective material+performance material (310 sq in). They are used where light is extremely low like working at night. Class 3 vests are mostly with short sleeves. The reflective material is also used on the sleeves of the vests. They are used:
1) Worn by workers who work in night timing.
2) Worn by workers who work where traffic speed is more than 50mph.
3) Tow truck operators
4) Utility Workers

Class 1 Hi vis Vests are the simplest type of safety vests. As compared to class 2 safety vests and Class 3, It is made by using less reflective material. Background Material (217 Sq. in) and Retroreflective material (155 sq. in). Class 1 Safety Vests are sleeveless and used when there is less probability of accidents, especially on the roadside. It’s used when daylight is enough and any person working on the site can be seen easily from distance. They are worn when traffic isn’t passing at high speed. They can be worn by:
1) Mineworkers
2) Refinery workers
3) Workers working on the parking side
4) Workshop employees near the road side

REFLECTIVE VESTS ADDITIONAL FACTORS TO BE NOTED:

As a manufacturer and supplier of workwear, we have to keep in mind all the features of a particular product. When placing an order one should aware of all things about safety or reflective vests. These are defined below:

WATER PROFF/WATER RESISTANT:
In some conditions workers have to work in wet conditions for this, they should opt for Hi vis/reflective vests that are both water resistant and breathable. But you should take care of the laws and SOPs of your particular country.

ARC RATING:
Arc rating must be kept in mind when working in electric shock conditions. But only arc rating won’t work you’ll have to get a whole set of PPE equipments when electrical hazards are threats.

TEAR-RESISTANT MATERIAL:
The background material of reflective Safety Vests is tear resistant but this is not needed all time.

POCKETS:
Pockets are a very useful part of Hi vis or reflective safety vests, especially for surveyors. They are used to put some important instruments i.e measuring tapes in pockets.

IDENTIFIERS:
Identifiers are transparent pockets in Hi Vis Vests to show an ID card or company card for identification purposes. Identifiers are added at the request of customers sometimes. Graphics for contrasting materials must be under (22 Sq In) Area, and graphics for non-contrasting materials must be under 72 Sq. In.

HOOK AND LOOP BREAK-AWAY FEATURES:
They are placed between the side and shoulders of Safety Vests, because if the vest gets caught by the part of the machine, then these break-aways allow the vest to break and prevent the worker to get escape from the pull of the moving/rotating part of a strong machine.

MIC HOLDERS:
Sometimes a mic holder is added to the upper portion of the vest to hold a mic. This feature is for surveyors mostly, so that they can clip walky-talky in them.
